Mic Drop: How to Give Up the Power Struggle – and Win

by Lauren B. Smith, DVM

After going through an unexplained illness last year, I realized just how powerless it can make you feel to not know what’s going on with your own body.  Pets are an extension of us and our families, so it really made me stop and think about what our clients go through when their pets are sick and they need our help. That’s why I decided to speak on power dynamics in the exam room and how we can make our clients feel more in control.  [Read more…] about Mic Drop: How to Give Up the Power Struggle – and Win

Mic Drop: Why I Hire Artists

by Saye Clement, DVM

I’m a passionate supporter of the arts in my spare time. I got to thinking about why, and came to the realization that artists possess traits that I admire; traits that I want my veterinary team members to have as well! And thus, on a page of a random notebook, this talk was born! (You’ll have to watch to understand that reference!)

Mic Drop: What’s That? A Veterinarian Confronts Hearing Loss, and Maybe You Should, Too.

by Bruce Francke, DVM

It took me several years to finally admit that I was having a hearing problem. I think it’s human nature to deny your shortcomings as long as possible, but communication is critical in my job! Mic Drop: What If…

by Senani Ratnayake, RVT

I decided to do my Mic Drop at the Uncharted Veterinary Conference on a topic that is near and dear to my heart. Over the years, working as an RVT, consultant, and speaker (both inside and outside the veterinary industry) I have heard many crazy, heartfelt, and devastating stories that made me stop and think about all of the things that had to line up in order for that story to take place. Sharing a personal experience of mine allowed me the opportunity to share the twists and turns of a series of “What If…” moments that led to a truly memorable time in my life. The veterinary setting in my Mic Drop allowed for a deeper set of “What If's” as I encouraged everybody to be aware of when we are judging, in order to really consider what circumstances may have led to something being different to what you picture as “ideal.” Speaking is my passion and I feel especially privileged to have been able to speak to the Uncharted Tribe. “What If…” you watch my Mic Drop? Well, I hope it inspires you to think, even if just for a moment!  [Read more…] about Mic Drop: What If…
