Uncharted Member Spotlight is back! We invite you to take a peek into part of what makes the Uncharted Veterinary Community so unique: our members! We sat down to interview some of the amazing people who have joined us on our amazing journey since the first conference in 2017. This week, the spotlight is on Ron Sosa, who joined our community as a practice manager and now also holds the title of virtual conference dance party leader! Enjoy!
For anyone who doesn’t know you, could you tell us a little about yourself?
I have been working in the veterinary field since 2002. I have a special interest in dermatology and spent 7 years working with various dermatologists..I think it’s the puzzle more than the medicine. I have founded a Facebook group, Arizona veterinary community that is trying to bond our local community together. I am also a member of the Arizona Veterinary Health Care Team where I keep up with local industry and have been a speaker for various management topics. I previously put on monthly veterinary dermatology lectures for peers across the country on VSPN (Veterinary Support Personnel Network). I now sit on the advisory board for the International Boarding and Pet Service Association (IBPSA).
I traveled all the way from New York to Arizona in 2010 and now live with my spouse, 2 boys, and two pups, Victoria, a Tibetan Terrier mix, and Albert, a Wirehaired Jack Russell Terrier!
What are your 2 favorite groups in the Uncharted Workplace community and why?
The Management and COVID-19 Planning groups because they have been such a wealth of creativity and understanding of multiple perspectives I hadn’t considered.
What were you looking for when you joined Uncharted?
I was looking for Jade Velasquez to stop hounding me, haha. What I found was this amazing network of friends and like-minded individuals.
What is your favorite hobby and how did you discover it? Would you recommend it to others?
I have recently discovered dice making, thanks to some of the amazing people in Uncharted getting me interested in Dungeons and Dragons.
What is your current work related goal?
My goal is to be better than I was yesterday, constantly growing and never ever stagnate.
Who is one of your favorite people you’ve met through Uncharted and why?
There are so many, and I’m thankful to each person I’ve had the privilege to have an exchange with. I couldn’t possibly name everyone.
What is your end-of-workday guilty pleasure?
Real housewives reality show…I know it’s so bad…but it’s so good I can’t look away.
What is one thing you never thought you could do (or were afraid to try) that you’ve done since joining Uncharted?
I was afraid to look like a failure to managers that reported to me so I didn’t put on some of the strategic planning sessions I have always wanted to do. Thanks to the master classes for pushing me to make these happen.
Have you ever worked outside of the veterinary field? What was it like?
I sold health and life insurance to senior citizens. It has truly allowed me to appreciate people’s life stories and know that life is fleeting.
Do you have a dream for your career? What is it?
I have a dream to put my stamp on the industry for the better. Some legacy that can help those after me.
What is one thing you believe all veterinary professionals can do right now to make Vet Med even better?
We can be kind.
