What's This Episode About?
This week on the podcast, Dr. Roark and Stephanie tackle a topic that we recently had the chance to talk through with someone at a workshop we hosted. An associate vet is in the process of buying into their practice. They are super thrilled. But they feel like there might be an elephant in the room. The elephant is going to be named “Sam” and we find out that Sam is a family member to the office manager at the veterinary practice. Sam isn’t doing their job well – lots of mistakes and lack of ownership. They also don’t seem happy in their role. Our associate vet is wondering “Will I lose my office manager too if I have to fire Sam? What do I possibly do when I have a team member who is not doing a great job but is related to one of the bosses?!” Andy and Stephanie will dive into the headspace and then outline some action steps for how you might be able to handle this situation in your practice. Let’s get into this…

October 21-23: Uncharted Culture Conference, Virtual
Culture is the heart of what makes your practice unique. It’s the blend of personalities, passions and processes that give your team a sense of belonging. It creates a clear understanding of what people can expect from their jobs and what’s expected of them. Culture can build up a practice into the place everyone in town wants to work, or more quickly break it down into the place no one wants to apply.
Every veterinary clinic has a culture — are you being intentional in choosing what yours will be?
